BioXpedia’s laboratory offers analysis services on several levels for research projects investigating infection and disease caused by SARS-CoV-2.
Screening plasma samples for relevant proteins in relation to infection/non-infection or treatment response:
To gather knowledge about the virus’ impact on the immune- or inflammatory response, the relative concentration of proteins known to be related to immune or inflammatory response, can be measured in plasma or serum samples. Such data may even contain information useful for prognostic purposes or stratification of patients.
We use the Olink Immuno-PCR panels, each containing 92 protein assays, to screen plasma or serum samples. Only 1 µl of sample is required for the antibody-based screening. To learn more about the technology, the panels, and protein markers we screen for, please see panels

Detection of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 by ELISA
Investigating the presence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies can be useful in patient stratification, as well as in understanding recent and long-term immune responses. The latter being relevant both in regards to SARS-CoV-2 infection and to COVID-19 vaccinations.

Gene Expression Analysis related to Immune and Inflammatory Response:
To achieve understanding of the biological response to the virus, or the effects related to treatment, gene expression profiling is a valuable tool.
For analysis of samples we use NanoString’s technology. Panels of up to 770 gene assays, can elucidate patterns of gene expression related to immune and inflammatory responses associated with infection. In addition NanoString has developed a spike-in panel of gene expression assays for SARS-CoV-2. Using the spike-in option, the infection and immune response can be studied simultaneously.

Investigation of known SNP genotypes related to symptomatic/non-symptomatic cases:
To understand the variation in symptoms related to virus infection, researchers might look at specific SNPs in the human genome to evaluate their hypothesis.
To analyse samples for targeted SNP genotyping we offer a high-through-put analysis, with the option to analyse 24 or 96 different SNPs per sample. Our capacity for SNP genotyping is > 50.000 samples per month.

Detection of SARS-CoV-2 in samples using Q-PCR:
BioXpedia now also offer testing of SARS-CoV-2. For detection, we extract RNA from samples and run Q-PCR analysis on the Quanstudio 7 PCR system for genes specific for SARS-CoV-2 + controls. We also use the Fluidigm Biomark HD PCR system that allows up to 24 target genes total to be detected per sample in a single run. In that way SARS-CoV-2 can be tested along with additional viral respiratory diseases.
